So, I'm finishing up day four of my life without glasses, and so far, so good. I had my surgery first thing Thursday morning, then slept for six hours. Friday morning, I had an appointment with my eye doctor, and I was already seeing 20/20 in both eyes. It feels a little weird yet, like I am wearing my contacts, because my eyes are dry from the surgery, and I'm using a lot of artificial tears. But that's starting to go away as well, much sooner than I expected. Other than that, it's weird not having to deal with glasses or contacts, but so far, I love it. It's also a little weird putting plastic protectors over my eyes when I go to bed, but that only has to go on for a couple of weeks.
As for the surgery itself, no problems at all. I got a little nervous when they put the ring that holds the eye in place on the first eye, mainly because I felt the pressure of the suction, and then the vision in that eye faded out due to said pressure. But I knew it was coming (which I'll talk about in a bit), so it wasn't too bad. The second eye was no problem because I knew exactly what to expect. That was the first part of the surgery, where they cut the "flap" with the first laser. In reality, the laser make thousands of little bubbles in the eye, so the flap isn't actually loosened from the eye until they are ready to use the second laser. They took me back to the waiting room after this first step, and everything was fuzzy, since I now had all of those little bubbles in each eye. After a few minutes, they took me to the second room, and then used the LASIK laser to perform the correction. A few minutes later, I was done and ready to go home. I was at the office for less than an hour and a half, and under the two lasers for a total of 5 minutes, tops.
I had all of this done at Hale Vision, here in Brookfield, WI. I cannot recommend this place enough. Everything was done incredibly well and quickly. It costs more than most places, but they use the best, top of the line equipment available. They also take more time with you than most places. I just don't trust something as important as my eyesight to a discount place. I'm willing to pay more for the best. And according to everything that I researched, there isn't any better place for laser surgery anywhere in the state. In addition, they have a meeting with Dr. Hale and all of the upcoming patients for about an hour. He goes through the entire process of exactly what will go on when you are in for your surgery. He told us every step in detail, so there were no surprises. That is definitely a great thing to do, because some of the steps in the process would freak people out if they weren't aware of what was coming.
Overall, I would say that the surgery is worth every penny I spent on it, and I look forward to many years without glasses.
