Announcer Stupidity Reaches All-Time Low

Watching the NFL playoffs this weekend, and during the Redskins/Seahawks game, we had the distinct "pleasure" of listening to Chris Collinsworth.  If there's been an announcer anywhere that could take the "stupid" crown from John Madden, I had always felt that he was the guy, and he sure proved it on Saturday night.  First, there was the fact that just about every other sentence coming out of his mouth was "Sean Taylor" this or "Sean Taylor" that.  Yes, the tragedy that the Redskins have had to deal with was huge, and their turnaround in light of that is indeed remarkable, but it is also a little sickening how much he made that into the sole reason that the Redskins were playing well at the end of the season and during the first three quarters of the game on Saturday.

However, that is probably not a lot more than any announcer would have been saying during that game.  The real problem I have is with one of the things specifically that he said during one of these little speeches.  He basically said that he felt sorry for those "poor kids" that murdered Sean Taylor.  That they had never intended on killing anyone, that they had expected Taylor not to be home, and that there was a panic and confusion that lead to him being killed.  I don't care what anyone's sentiment might be with a statement like that, they are completely wrong.  Those adults (not kids, the youngest one is 17) chose to break into someone's house, with guns, and try to rob him.  They made that choice completely on their own, no one forced them to do it.  And no one forced them to shoot Taylor when they found out he was home.  They could have run, they could have done any number of other things.  They chose murder, plain and simple.  There is no reason to feel sorry for them.  If there was never any intention to cause bodily harm, and they thought that no one would be in the house, then why did they feel the need to bring a gun?  And also, if they were confused and panicked at the time of the shooting, why did they not come forward afterwards?  Why are they not pleading guilty to any wrongdoing now?  If they were truly good people that deserve any pity whatsoever, then that is what they would have done.

So congratulations, Chris Collinsworth, you have won the award for saying the dumbest thing I have ever heard when watching anything sports related.  It is quite the feat to get all the way up to the top, and I hope you're proud of yourself.
