Well, here it is, over two week since November ended, and I'm just getting to wrapping things up. As I had mentioned previously, November was National Blog Posting Month. My goal was to post daily for the entire month (minus the first few days, before I knew about it). And until we left for Florida, and I was left without real internet access, I succeeded. But how successful was it, really? I'm kind of torn. On the one hand, I did post pretty regularly until life got in the way. On the other hand, the quality of my posts was disappointing in several cases, and a few times, it was so bad that I'm personally to embarrassed to go back and re-read them. I really want this blog to have some substance in what I write - I don't have a desire to just post for the sake of posting.
That said, I did learn a few things with this excercise. First and foremost, I don't currently have the time to write on a daily basis. My life gets in the way too much. First was vacation, and then, after that, I had to work insane hours for about two weeks, so we could get our new site launched at work, which prevented me from posting as well. Also, writing something with substance takes time and effort. Some of my original posts were downright exhausting to write, making sure I had my facts right, and making sure that I was saying exactly what I wanted to say. They were exhausting, but at the same time, they were a lot more worthwhile. I can go back and read those posts, and I still feel proud of what I wrote. The items in the last month or so, not so much. I've also noticed that the older posts have gotten more reads, and most of the posts in November are pretty low, with the exception of the Halo 3 cheaters post, which I knew would get more views, just because it had the word Halo in it. This leads me to believe that the two people out there reading this regularly (and anyone else that stops by for a visit) would probably agree that one good post from me a week is better than seven posts of dubious quality.
So what this means is that, for now, I'm going back to a once a week schedule on this blog - every Sunday. I'll probably try the daily thing again next year, and maybe I'll find that I've got more available topics and energy to post more often at a later point.
