Finally, the last stop in my whirlwind tour of Walt Disney World. Overall, I think MGM is the weakest of the four main parks. We had to leave by 3pm to catch our flight, and we actually left earlier than that because we were pretty much done. Of course, that can partially be attributed to the fact that the park was pretty empty. I'm not sure if it was because it was a Sunday, or more specifically the Sunday of Thanksgiving weekend, or if the park is always more empty, but we were able to get through just about all of the attractions pretty quickly.
Muppet Vision 3-D
Another 3-D movie, with the cast of the muppets. Pretty good overall, right up there with "It's Tough to be a Bug." I'm pretty sure that we saw this at Disneyland, but worth seeing again.
Star Tours
Another simulation ride - this time you are put into a spaceship in the Star Wars universe. You end up in the wrong part of the galaxy, due to a rookie pilot-droid, and are caught in the middle of a battle between the rebels and the Empire. It ends with you following Luke as he flies in to destroy the Death Star and head back home. Lots of shaking and it feels fairly real. Another ride that we did at Disneyland but still worth doing again.
Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular
A live action show with a bunch of stunt-people and some audience interaction. Several explosions and lots of fights. The best part is when one of the "audience" participants is asked to participate in a demo of fake fighting. After some very over-the-top flops, it's revealed (obviously) that the participant was really one of the stunt people. Pretty packed showings, but worth it.
Sounds Dangerous with Drew Carey
A short movie starring Drew Carey as a police officer going undercover to break up a diamond smuggling ring. It's done from the point of view where he's wearing a camera and microphone, so you see and hear things as he does. A part of it is completely dark, and all you get is sound from the stereo headphones that you are wearing for the movie. Kind of average overall, but Drew Carey always makes things funny.
Journey Into Narnia
A short presentation on some of the special effects done in the Chronicles of Narnia movie. After the presentation, there's some of the models and props used in the movie. Neat to see the things in the movie, but pretty blah.
Walt Disney: One Man's Dream
A museum showing the life and history of Walt Disney, followed by a movie about him. Lots of great things to learn about him and the motivations for his endeavors. The museum has models of how he envisioned things like the theme parks and also some (replicas of?) artifacts from his life, like a desk from the school he went to while growing up, which had his name carved in it. Definitely worth viewing.
Voyage of The Little Mermaid
A live action presentation with the actors performing several of the songs from the movie. Excellent performance overall. Probably the best attraction at the park.
The Great Movie Ride
A ride through several popular movies. Each scene is done with animatronics, and there is a little bit of live action going on with the tour guide and another cast member. Pretty good looking scenes, and the live action parts are very well done.
