"Thank You" (Greatest Commercial Ever)

I really don't have a lot to say about this.  This is, without a doubt, the best Super Bowl commercial ever.  If you disagree, you are wrong, it's as simple as that.  I would personally go a step further and say that this is the greatest commercial ever, regardless of context.  When this commercial first aired during the game, everyone in the entire room just stopped in silence and couldn't take their eyes off the commercial.  I highly doubt that any other room of football fans was any different at that time.

The thing that I love best about this commercial is that Anheuser-Busch did almost nothing to promote themselves.  Their logo aired for all of three seconds in a minute long commercial.  After such a moving commercial, I actually didn't even remember seeing the logo at all and had to actually pay closer attention to it the next time I saw it to see if it was there.  I like to think that this was their intent the entire time.  The focus is on the troops, and that's it.  It makes me incredibly proud to see a big corporation like this spend all of that money (probably around $5 million to air the one-minute spot once during the game) on a commercial that does next to nothing to promote their brand.  Of course, the commercial did as much for the company as (if not more than) any of their other massive advertising campaigns due to the amount of talk the commercial got (and still gets, as this post shows).  I am sure that they knew this, but I still think the sentiment matters much more.  Even now, nearly three years later, I still get choked up a bit when I watch this commercial, which is exactly as it should be.

Why am I writing about this?  No real reason, actually, I just feel really strongly that this commercial, and the message that it sends, should not be forgotten.  This is truly a defining moment in television and advertising history, in my opinion, and I want to make sure it doesn't get lost in the shuffle.
